We played some great teams this week (I have a feeling that all of the teams we will play are really good) and we're still standing! Trying to get a few kinks out, but the kids are really showing much improvement in all areas of the game. In game 1, we barely got by the Cubs with only a few minutes of sun left (if we had any). A few early and late inning clutch hits and consistent pitching throughout helped us start off the season on the right foot. We came back a few days later against the Giants. Seemed like every time we were on the verge of a big inning we were stymied by several great defensive plays on well hit balls. Even with the loss, I was pleased to see some of our pitching coming around. We came back with some great defense of our own the next day against the Dodgers. A big offensive inning with some key clutch hits along with very steady pitching helpes us preserve the win.
I see the boys starting to learn some of the finer points of the games including getting down those bunts, double steals, and throwing behind runners (for the benefit of you spying opposing coaches!). Looking forward to another fun week of baseball against the White Sox (Wednesday) and Red Sox (Saturday at 9 am).
